The Woking company has announced the launch of 'McLaren Special Operations', which will apply bespoke modifications and enhancements to its road cars.

The new department of McLaren Automotive celebrated its launch at this year's Pebble Beach meeting by displaying a heavily customised MP4-12C, whose treatment included 'satin matte' Volcano Orange paintwork, a gloss black roof, diamond-cut-finish wheels and front wheel-arch louvres, as well as various carbonfibre body parts.

The MP4-12C on show in the USA was designed to ‘inspire’ current and future customers and to show what the McLaren Special Operations team is capable of. Another unique MP4-12C was also on display, finished by the McLaren Formula 1 team in its signature AkzoNobel Sikkens chrome coating. However, this is one of the only options the new department will say ‘no’ to; it is specifically reserved for the F1 cars.

“For nearly 20 years we have been closely managing relationships with owners of the McLaren F1, and understanding their needs is a great foundation on which to launch a service that will now include MP4-12C customers,” said Paul McKenzie, responsible for McLaren Special Operations. “McLaren Automotive already offers '12C customers extensive options to personalise their car. However, we recognise some owners have specific tastes and we have the knowledge and capability to design, engineer and produce almost anything a customer may desire for their '12C.”
