Le Mans Legend 2007 - Hot Competition for Places

Motor Racing Legends, organisers of the Le Mans Legend historic support race at the modern 24 Hours, have been astounded by the number and quality of entries to the event. Even before entry forms were officially published, the owners of 103 eligible cars (from 1956 to 1968) had already registered 'serious interest' in securing a place on the starting grid. Yet the starting grid can accommodate just 61 cars, when the one-hour, two-driver race kicks off on the morning of Saturday 16th June, a few hours before the start of the world’s most famous endurance race.

With competition for places in the Le Mans Legend stronger than ever before, owners, drivers and teams have been keen to get their names in front of the selection committee as soon as possible. As Duncan Wiltshire, Chairman of Motor Racing Legends, explains, “The quality of the early entries has been superb. We’ve been contacted by the owners of a great many genuine Le Mans cars, such as the famous Morgan Plus 4 which raced there in 1962, as well as the Austin-Healey 3000 and TVR Grantura from the same year. Tim Samways Sporting and Historic Cars is planning to bring no fewer than five cars – the 1959 Le Mans-winning Aston Martin DBR1 and four Ferraris. These include the 1963 Ferrari 330LMB and the 1966 Ferrari P3/4. That last one should be a real challenge to the Ford GT40s!”

The Le Mans Legend race, run by Motor Racing Legends in partnership with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, is for actual cars which ran at Le Mans and genuine sister cars of the same specification. Now that entries have officially opened, potential competitors are encouraged to apply as soon as possible – and definitely before the closing date of 28th April. Final decisions on the 61 cars to race will be based on a combination of provenance, variety and spectator interest.

Entry forms and supplementary regulations can now be downloaded from the Calendar page of the Motor Racing Legends website, at www.motorracinglegends.com. Alternatively, call +44 (0)1379 678101, or e-mail [email protected].
