Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy 2002

The third edition of the GTR Supertrophy took off on 21 April at the Magny-Cours race track in France.

This Lamborghini monomarque championship is the world's fastest championship of this type with its powerful Diablo GTRs, each equipped with a V12, 6 litre, 590 hp engine.

The 2002 Championship, organised once again by Stephan Ratel, will include 7 races in France, Great Britain, Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal and possibly in the U.S.A. Following Magny-Cours, the race will take place at the Silverstone race track in England on 5 May, in Jarama, Spain on 2 June, in Oschersleben, Germany on 14 July, in Pergusa, Italy on 22 September and in Estoril, Portugal on 20 October. The venues and dates of the American races are still to be defined. All these races will form part of the " Eurosport Super Racing Weekend" (FIA GT).

The Italian crew was made up of the Zoboli/Tirella team (Mig Power) which led ahead overall, classifying in second place in the first race and winning the second race. Pole position in the second race went to the Sevin/Gounon team (Hidair Motorsport). The Lorent/Devinter team (Autovitesse) classified second in the second race.

The Zoboli/Tirella team therefore leads the provisional GTR Supertrophy Championship standings with 19 points. Also this year, a black Lamborghini GTR assigned to a mixed VIP/journalist team, forms part of the Group. At Magny-Cours, this mixed team was represented by the popular French ski champion Luc Alphand and by the ex-F1 pilot Patrick Tambay who reached pole position in the first race.
