Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante

Lamborghini has announced a new, open-top, high-performance version of its Gallardo supercar, the LP 570-4 Spyder Performante. Thanks to the extensive use of carbonfibre, the new V10 sportscar has a dry weight of just 1485kg – which helps the 5.2-litre, 570HP engine to catapult the car to 62mph in 3.9 seconds. Top speed is 201 mph.

As you’d expect from a drop-top version of the LP570-4 Superleggera, weight loss is a key factor in the design philosophy. Carbonfibre technology, which Lamborghini has been investing heavily in for some time, means the Spyder Performante shaves 65kg off the weight of the current Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder – and it also offers extra opportunities when it comes to the aerodynamics.

Designers from Lamborghini’s Centro Stile worked with wind tunnel specialists to reshape the front bumper, in which three-dimensional, deeply recessed elements form trapezoidal frames for the air intakes. These, together with the V-shaped, sharply defined nose, give a very dramatic appearance to the front end while, at the rear, a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes also helps to achieve better aerodynamic results. For those who want even more impact (and, arguably, better aerodynamics still), there’s an optional rear spoiler, too.

Even the new, 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres are designed to be extremely light. Low weight is, after all, Lamborghini’s latest mantra.
