Jochen Mass and Allan McNish

Jochen Mass and Allan McNish The annual Motor Racing Legends Dinner, held at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, comes around again next Friday February 22nd. While the calibre of speakers is always high, this year Duncan Wiltshire and his Motor Racing Legends team have excelled themselves.

As always, the dinner will celebrate the history of motorsport in general but with a particular focus on the Le Mans 24 Hours. Taking the floor next Friday will be two outright winners of ‘the greatest motor race in the world’, but from different eras: Jochen Mass and Allan McNish.

In the context of Le Mans, there could hardly be a more distinguished pair of speakers. Jochen Mass won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1989, driving the fearsome Sauber Mercedes, while Allan McNish claimed victory in 1998 at the wheel of a Porsche GT1. Indeed, McNish has an excellent chance of winning again in 2008, in the Audi R10 TDI sports-prototype he will be sharing with Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen on 14-15 June.

Between them, Mass and McNish have a quarter-century of Le Mans experience. To hear their combined reminiscences and anecdotes (teased out of them by Master of Ceremonies Tony Dron) is certain to be a truly special experience.

Classic Driver is looking forward enormously to the Dinner – and we hear that there are still a few tickets available, so it’s not too late to be part of this memorable evening yourselves. For tickets to the black-tie Dinner (at £104 per head to include wine and liqueurs) call Lindsey Warren on +44(0)1293 871568 – as soon as possible, as it’s only a week away!
