Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide

Here’s a gadget worthy of ‘M’, although such glamorous accessories could soon become basic requirements in the world of luxury sportscars. Jaeger-LeCoultre joined Aston Martin at Frankfurt last month to present the AMVOX2 Transponder Rapide, a wristwatch enabling owners of the latest Aston to open the car by pressing on the sapphire watch crystal.

To unlock the car, the owner simply applies light pressure to the OPEN position on the watch glass, positioned between 8 and 9 o’clock. The CLOSE position is between 3 and 4 o’clock. Pressing jointly on OPEN and CLOSE causes the headlights to come on for several seconds, helping the owner to find his car at a glance.

Needless to say, the Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece is itself a work of art. The base, including the lugs and crown, is made from satin-brushed 18-carat pink gold, while the pivoting case is crafted in brushed titanium. The black dial carries a grille motif, along with rhodium-plated metallic numerals coated in luminescent black in the centre. At 6 o’clock is the Aston Martin wing emblem, while the gilded Rapide symbol appears to float in a central window which reveals the ruthenium mainplate and bridges of the exquisitely refined movement.
