1954 Jaguar XK120 Fixed-head Coupé - £55,000 - £70,000
Weighing in with the first of the London-based Christmas sales, the Historics team has assembled a 63-car and motorcycle entry as varied as ever.
The catalogue is a mix of high-profile cars (such as the ‘Sir Winston Churchill’, 1939 Daimler DB18 Drophead Coupé for £200,000 - £250,000), solid, evergreen classics (the LHD 1954 Jaguar XK120 FHC, at £55,000 - £70,000) and newer exotica: a category which includes both the 1984 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S (£75,000 - £100,000) and the 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo Cabriolet (£30,000 - £40,000).
Sir Winston’s car was employed by the great man during Special Domestic Occasions (an expression typical of the era; redolent of bowler hats, pinstripe suits and winged collars), as well serving as a mobile election platform in 1945. Sadly, his campaigning did not bring success but whoever buys the rather elegant, silver over black with green hide interior Daimler will have a very impressive motor car – a real vote-winner at events and concours worldwide.

Of a similar era and colour scheme, the 1950 Bentley Mk VI Sports Saloon by Park Ward (£65,000 - £75,000) has a nice, post-War Imperialist touch to it, while more sporting drivers will appreciate any of the five Jaguar XKs. I particularly fancy the 1954 Fern Green/green hide XK120 FHC with its steel disc wheels and spats. Just the job for the 2011 Goodwood Revival.
There’s an open LHD XK120, too, the 1952 Roadster for £50,000 - £60,000.

1961 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV - £120,000 - £140,000
Marque rival Aston Martin is represented by three cars, two 1980s ‘wedges’ and a 1961 DB4 Series IV, estimated at £120,000 - £140,000. Also of the era, we like Lancia Aurelia B20 Coupés, and the late-model (6th series) 1959 example looks a very classy car for £48,000 - £58,000.
Looking at the older cars, there’s a 1924 Rolls-Royce 40/50hp Silver Ghost Limousine by Mulliner (£140,000 - £160,000), an amazing 1932 Talbot 14/65 Boat Tail Tourer (featuring out-of-period mahogany planking for its bodywork) at £20,000 - £30,000, and a rather elegant 1929 Lancia Lambda Limousine by Garavini of Turin for £55,000 - £65,000.

Of the more modern entries, in addition to the 1980s supercars, there’s a 1977 Maserati Bora 4.9 Litre (£55,000 - £65,000 and surely worth more than a third of a ‘Daytona’?) and a real, handmade ‘grand Bentley’ in the form of a 1998 Azure, reasonably estimated at £55,000 - £65,000.
In addition to the cars, several motorcycles will be sold, and we particularly like the 1964 Rickman Métisse 500cc scrambler for £10,000 - £15,000. There’s also one of the Indian-built Royal Enfields, a 2002 Bullet 500cc at ‘No Reserve’.
