With prices of one of the original 14 Lightweight E-Types well above £1,000,000 it’s no surprise that a number of quality ‘recreations’ have been produced over recent years. H&H have one such at their next sale, a 1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Roadster Lightweight Evocation for £55,000 - 65,000. Amongst the 65+ car entry there are also many pre-War cars, including a 1929 Delage DR70 Four Seat Tourer at £32,000 - 35,000, and this 1936 Lagonda LG45 Tourer with an estimate of £45,000 - 55,000.
The Lagonda has enjoyed the same owner for the past 30 years and during that time has been a veteran of countless rallies and tours including the Lagonda Club's fiftieth and sixtieth anniversary runs to Le Mans to celebrate the marque's victory in 1935.
These cars really do look the classic inter-War part, and with the same basic engine (4453cc Meadows OHV straight-six) as the Le Mans-winner, plus a 4-speed gearbox, it will have performance enough for those used to more modern machinery.

Back to the E-Type, this particular car was converted from a road car in 2000/2001, and has been set up for "comfortable road / rally use" rather than bone-shaking pure racing work. With its black leather interior, silver paintwork, and authentic-style ‘Lightweight’ vented hardtop and bootlid, it certainly looks the part. It’s estimated at £55,000 - 65,000. From a similar period, there’s also a 1963 Lotus Elite Special Equipment (£20,000 - 24,000), a nice-looking car in two-tone blue complete with the desirable ZF gearbox.
A feature of H&H’s sales is the broad spectrum of all-round classics on offer, and the forthcoming June sale is no different. There’s a 1960 Austin-Healey 'Frogeye' Sprite for £5,500 - 6,600, a 1966 Morris Mini Cooper S (£25,000 - 30,000, in current historic rallying spec.), a 1971 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce for £10,000 - 12,000, and a 1956 Bentley S1 Saloon estimated at £20,000 - 24,000.

Picking two cars out on the basis of ‘what would you buy?’, one would have to mention the 1950 Dellow Mk1 historic trials and rally car for a very reasonable £10,000 - 12,000, and the 1977 Rolls-Royce Corniche II Coupé, resplendent in its 1970s gold with dark chocolate brown Everflex roof and matching leather upholstery colour scheme. It’s estimated at £18,000 - 20,000.

Ex-Graham Hill/John Miles Gold Leaf Lotus 72 to star at H&H’s July Kempton Park Sale
Among significant early entries to H&H’s next Southern England sale, at the Kempton Park horse race course on Wednesday 25th July, will be an ex-Team Lotus F1 car, the 1970 Lotus 72 used by both multiple world champion Graham Hill and regular number two driver Miles. The car, that set the standard for cutting-edge design at the time, is expected to sell for £220,000 - 260,000.

In addition to tthe Lotus, there’s also the F.W. Stiles Team Car, Brooklands, Irish GP and Ards TT history 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport for £380,000 - 420,000, and a 1951 Allard K2 Roadster, with believed Monte Carlo Rally history, for £35,000 - 40,000, while Tin Top enthusiasts for the heaviest of metal will like the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500XL historic racing car estimated at £40,000 - 45,000.
