Cambio 60s Keyfob (£104) - sterling silver and black rhodium metal |
Marque specialist GTO Engineering needs little introduction to collectors worldwide. Now, in addition to performing standard-setting restoration and race preparation, the Berkshire-based company has put its name to a range of leather and precious metal accessories.
Naturally enough, most pieces are themed, with inspiration for their design coming from the many examples of ‘rolling sculpture’ which have gone through Mark Lyon’s world-famous GTO Engineering workshops.
The range, ‘GTO London’, is the brainchild of Victoria Lyon, Mark’s daughter, and is split into a collection of (gold, sterling silver or ‘RFM’, that’s Real Ferrari Metal) cufflinks, tie-pins, keyrings and a money clip; and new-for-2011 leather wallets.
One of the cufflinks takes its design from the traditional R6 pattern Dunlop racing tyre. Another – my favourite – is in the form of a single carburettor trumpet, complete with ‘mesh’ cover. These are available in both sterling silver (£290) and bronze-looking RFM (£667).

Each theme has an Italian name. Cambio 60s, for example, includes tie-pins, cufflinks and a key fob with the classic, Ferrari ‘open-gate’ gear lever. Pneumatico is the racing tyre design, and Gallettone the three-eared knock-off spinner which features on pins and links.
There’s also a sterling silver, ‘drilled’ money clip (or Denaro Fermaglio) for £295.
The leather range of wallets, carrying names such as ‘250 GTO’, ‘Dino’ and ‘Daytona’, was a natural progression, having seen the success of the metal products. As with the latter, every item in this range carries key design features from iconic cars: the diagonal-stitched transmission tunnel cover, and the leather and suede combination which featured in seats on the sportiest GTs, for example.
Bespoke work can be accommodated, too. A recent addition to the range was a one-off, blue wallet in frog skin (some frog!), as well as special Volante cufflinks with a lapis lazuli centre and diamonds replacing the traditional rivets on the wheel’s rim.
