Goodwood Festival of Speed 2008

“We had a bit of fun here recently with Dougie Lampkin,” said Goodwood’s press office, when they sent us the video below; and they’re not kidding. Nothing could better sum up Goodwood’s outrageous, mould-breaking, sublime sense of (potentially hazardous) fun, than this glimpse of the corridors of power at Goodwood House… from an unusual vantage point.

If a picture can paint a thousand words, then a video is as good as an entire library. So do take the time to watch; and once again congratulate Lord March – a man who, among all his other qualities, clearly has scant regard for his carpets.

And then, of course, book your tickets for the Goodwood Festival of Speed which is – amazingly – just two short weeks away. Listing the 100 famous participants and more than 350 outstanding competition cars and motorcycles would require another entire library. Suffice to say, they include current F1 stars Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, rubbing shoulders with big names from the world of WRC and World Superbikes, and a whole host of motorsport heroes: from Derek Bell, Stig Blomqvist and Carl Fogarty, to Sirs Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart, Damon Hill, Jochen Mass and Hannu Mikkola.

The cars, spanning the decades from early Edwardian through to current F1, will cover Le Mans sportscars, throaty CanAm racers, current road-going supercars, a wealth of motorcycles, plus American top-fuel dragsters from the 1950s and ’60s and rallying heroes sideways on the Goodwood Forest Rally Stage.

Plus, of course, 12-times individual World Trials Champion, Dougie Lampkin. And who knows where he’ll end up?
