The Gauntlett Gallery

Richard Gauntlett has opened a new gallery in London. Located in Pimlico Road, the new premises offer the discerning collector an extensive selection of antique travel goods from Vuitton, Cartier, Hermès and Dunhill, as well as posters, smoking accessories and other objects of unparalleled quality.

There was no mistaking the address of the launch party, as parked outside the newly refurbished gallery was a pre-War Alfa Romeo, not to mention several classic cars in the adjacent streets. The new premises are not dedicated solely to things automotive, but with Richard's background of family life immersed in motoring, and having a complementary business sourcing high-end collectors' motor cars, it's inevitable that pieces with four-wheeled connections feature large.

Guests present at the party included actor and adventurer Charley Boorman (seen below in deep discussions with Richard Gauntlett), the legendary Aston Martin restorer and race-preparer Richard Williams, Octane magazine's editor Robert Coucher, Graeme Hunt from nearby classic car specialists Bramley of Kensington, and Simon Khachadourian from The Pullman Gallery.

Inside the gallery were some stunning travel and motor racing posters, as well as a selection of travel trunks, smoking ephemera, busts and statuettes and a large-scale model of a Ferrari 250 GTO.

By opening to 7pm most evenings, Richard Gauntlett wants his new gallery to be accessible to both those leaving the office late, and for local Chelsea residents (it's a short walk from Sloane Square, a few doors down from Linley) coming home after a hard day in the office.

It's going to be a nice place to visit, and Richard expects the "un-stuffy, clubby atmosphere" to inspire collectors to drop in, perhaps picking up a new piece for their den, office or living room. And for those looking for the 'complete effect', the Gauntlett Gallery offers an interior design service too.

The Gauntlett Gallery is located at 90 - 92 Pimlico Road, London SW1W 8PL. It's open from 10am - 7pm Tuesdays - Fridays, 10am - 4.30pm Saturdays. Closed Sunday and Monday.
