Exciting action under a bright Spanish sun was the feature of the recent 'Alfa Romeo Tour of Spain 2002'. Competitiors had their last chance of the year in Europe to give their GT cars a good running before the winter overhaul.
1. Bellm/Lanzante GB/GB - Ford GT 40; 2. Connor/Sullivan - Porsche 911 Carrera 3L;
3. Bosch/Bosch (NL/CH) - Ferrari Daytona Competition
The Bellm/Lanzante car had its hands full from the start with the Bosch/Bosch driven Ferrari Daytona Competition, last year's winner, hot on its heels. The US team of Connor and Sullivan, Porsche 911 Carrera, were also serious contenders and ended up in second spot. Despite some serious excursions off route, the GT40, so dominant at the recent Le Mans Classic, was the ultimate victor.
First stage took place in Grenada with an extended run on the road. The GT40 had its hands full of the pursuing pair in the twistier sections but left everyone behind in a straight line.
The GT40's pursuers, Bosch/Bosch and Connor/Sullivan always completely on the limit. The Bosch Team have already won this year's Tour Auto, Modena Centro Ore Classic, Shell Historic Ferrari Maserati Challenge and the Ferrari 360 Challenge.
The section from Murcia to Valencia was covered by three stages and ended with a night course at the beautiful Parcours of Valencia. With the final day ending with a blue sky, and 30 degrees in the shade, the victors must be happy to put their car away for the year and look forward to 2003.
