Exige Scura: the Dark Side of Lotus

The Tokyo International Motor Show, which starts this week, sees the launch of the latest special edition from Lotus, the ‘Exige Scura’. The name ‘Scura’ means ‘dark’ in Italian, and – says Lotus – is due to the ‘stealth character of the already fierce-looking sportscar’.

We’re told that the matt black paint finish has a velvety texture, while contrasting, high-gloss Phantom Black triple stripes run the length of the car. The dark ‘Scura’ theme continues through the carbonfibre front splitter, oil-cooler inlet vanes, side airscoops and rear spoiler. There’s plenty of carbonfibre inside, too, all finished in clear lacquer which, along with the anthracite-coloured metal details, give the cabin a ‘raw and racy ambiance’.

Just 35 cars Exige Scuras will be made, with enhancements to performance and – thanks to all that carbonfibre – a weight reduction compared with the production Exige S.

Equipped with the most powerful engine in the Exige range and generating 256bhp, the Exige Scura sprints from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds yet emits only 199g/km of CO2. Lotus Launch Control and Traction Control come as standard. The on-the-road UK price is expected to be £45,950.
