Electric Vehicle Racing Goes Live

Electric racing is set to become a reality in 2011, with the launch of the EV Cup, the world’s first zero-emission electric vehicle race series. Full details will be revealed at January’s Autosport show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The races will take place both in the UK and abroad, and the grid will comprise more than one type of electrically powered race car. “We will be offering drivers the choice of buying cars or renting drives,” explains Race Director Grahame Butterworth. “We have in place a programme of events at prime circuits and we plan shortly to offer potential customers the chance to experience electric power on the track at first hand.

“Sustainable EV racing will become a reality this year and the UK will be leading the way in making it happen,” he continues, “with the assistance of some quality names in British motorsport.”

Full details will be announced on the EV Cup stand (No 2670) at the Autosport show, NEC Birmingham, on Thursday 13 January. See www.evcup.com.
