Vitra opens the doors to its treasury of design history

From 3 June 2016, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein will be open to the public. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, it’ll house thousands of treasures from the Vitra collection, including many significant pieces of modern furniture design…

The collection of the Vitra Design Museum comprises around 7,000 pieces of furniture, 1,000 lamps, and numerous archives and estates of great designers such as Ray and Charles Eames, Verner Panton and Alexander Girard. Some 400 of these pieces will be exhibited inside the striking new building designed by the architectural office of Herzog & de Meuron, including some of the most important objects in modern design history. Among them are early bentwood furniture, modernist pieces by legends such as Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto and Gerrit Rietveld, colourful objects from the pop era, and new designs fresh from the 3D printer.
