Coys at Nuremberg 21st April 2007 Preview
Coys will be selling 40 classic cars, as well as significant automobilia in Germany later this month. What better ‘featured lot’ than the famous ‘Flügeltürer’ 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL , more commonly referred to as a ‘Gullwing’, estimated at EURO 485,000-520,000.
The subject of ‘a comprehensive and lengthy bare metal restoration of the coachwork’, the car is finished in the authentic German DB180 silver. Originally sold to Baron von Hirschberg, a member of the Faber-Castell family, its recent history prior to restoration includes American, and then British, then Hong Kong ownership. A nice looking machine and accurately estimated at today’s rarefied levels.

There are also a couple of Auto Unions. Not – unfortunately – the celebrated pre-War racing cars, but nevertheless interesting little cars from the early 60s, very much ‘Funeral in Berlin’. The 1960 Auto Union 1000S saloon is estimated at EURO 9,000-12,000, while the 1961 Auto Union 1000 Special Cabriolet will cost a likely buyer EURO 22,000-26,000. We like the Metallic Silver Grey/Cognac leather 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3,5 Litre Coupé at EURO 22,000-26,000 too.

It’s not all home product. There are two Maseratis of note, the 1975 Maserati Indy 4.9 Litre, EURO 29,000-34,000, is a rare beast being more usually seen with 4.2 or 4.7 litre engines, while the 1976 Maserati Bora, at EURO 55,000-65,000, has only got 9.800 kms ‘on the clock’, having had just two owners from new.
And if you prefer British cars, Coys have a couple of Jaguar XK FHCs, the 1957 XK 150 FHC is estimated at EURO 42,000-52,000, while EURO 50,000-60,000 will buy you the 1956 XK 140 FHC, a RHD car in British Racing Green with brown interior (and FIA Papers). There’s also a rare 1955 Austin Healey 100 M at EURO 45,000-50,000, and a 1966 Jaguar S-Type 3.8 with O/D for EURO 17,000-20,000.

1954 Maserati A6 GCS to star at COYS Monaco 2007
Highlight of this years COYS Monaco Legende et Passion sale, which is to be held on May 21st, is a 1954 Maserati A6 GCS which is likely to fetch more than $1,000,000
"This is one of the most important Maseratis that we have ever offered for sale" said Christian Penwilll at COYS, "it has a fantastic pedigree and racing history and has been completely renovated to its original racing condition."
With matching chassis, and engine number 2065 the car was delivered new by Paris Agent-Garage Meridian to a Mr Roboly. Its racing history reads like a who's who of racing circuits:

3rd place Circuit de Sables de S'Olonne Sept 54
2nd place Coup d'Automne Oct 54
5th place Coup de Salon
In early 1955 the car was sold to Mr Ioens and entered at the Goodwood Easter meeting. It raced in Helsinki and gained 5th Place in the Swedish Grand Prix. It also raced in the Tourist Trophy at Dundrod in Ulster and won its class.In 1956 it returned to France and won the Coup dAtuo 1st in Class and 9th Overall in the Coup de Salon.
Between 1958 and 1960 the Car was passed on to Esmin Gaud who took the car Hill Climbing. In the 1960s the car went to Brazil and returned to Europe in the 1990s. It was restored by Maurizio Grazzi between 1996 and 1997 and was back on its wheels in 1998. Between 1999 and 2001 the car was on display at Galleria Maranello. In 2001 Eckart Burg bought the car. It was totally stripped down and went to Ferrari from 2001-2002 to be inspected by Richard Crump. It was completely restored again at the Fiorano factory. The car was fitted with its original Gearbox in 2002
In 2003-2004 it competed in the Maserati/Ferrari Challenge.
