Coys' last 2007 sale, held at their regular Horticultural Halls venue, includes three 'recreation' pre-War cars of the highest quality. One of two Alfa Romeos is this 1932-type 8C 2600 Monza Evocazione; a superbly executed car estimated at £320,000 - 360,000, a fraction of the price of an original.
The engine work on this, and the other 'recreated' Alfa, a 1932-type 8C 2600 Spyder Corsa Evocazione, was entrusted to the well-known Jim Stokes Workshops, while the rest of the fabrication and machining necessary to complete the car has clearly been done to highest level.
Coys catalogue each car as "way below the considerable cost of its creation" and they are correct. It's always difficult to value these sort of entries but you cannot fault the quality, and compared to many an 'original' car, all they lack is a 1930s chassis plate.
And if your allegiances lie more with work emanating from Molsheim than Milan, Coys also have another well-finished reproduction, a 1932-type Bugatti Type 51 Grand Prix car. £225,000 - 275,000 will buy you an impressive sporting motor car.

In fact a significant proportion of the catalogue comes from the pre-War era, although the styling on the ex-Count Trossi 1939 Alfa Romeo 2500SS - 'Refer Depart.' for price - could have been found on cars up to the mid-50s. Of the nine Rolls-Royce entered, seven were built in the twenties and thirties, and pick of the bunch must be the imposing Sage/Brewster Green 1927 Phantom I Dual-Cowl Phaeton estimated at £90,000 - 110,000. We like the 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II LWB by Radford, at £28,000 - 35,000, too.
Enthusiasts for historic rallying will be interested in three cars in the catalogue. Firstly, there's a genuine ex-Jim Clark, ex-Works, and ex-1966 RAC Rally 1965 Ford Cortina Lotus Rally Car for £45,000 - 60,000, and there's also a very special 1958 Austin Healey 100/6. 'Refer Depart.' for price, but this car has proven competition history in period (1962 Monte Carlo Rally, 1965 Monte Carlo, Geneva, and the East African Safari rallies, as well as the gruelling Spa-Sofia-Liege that year) so may well go for big money.

And for a bit of fun there's a 1963 Ex Works Vauxhall VX4/90 - Ex RAC Rally, Monte Carlo Rally, Tour de France for £22,000 - 30,000. Yes, you too could be mixing it with the TZs and SWBs on the Tour Auto in this wonderful period piece.
Needless to say, the sale also has more modern classics from the 50s, 60s and 70s, like the white, with white/black seats, 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 'Daytona'. Estimated at £130,000 - 160,000, this is an early 'Plexiglass' car originally delivered in this colour combination, and with wire wheels, to a customer in the UK. It's since spent some time in the USA, but makes a nice alternative to the raft of 'retail red' Daytonas on the market.

There are five Aston Martins entered, including a well-known race and rally 1952 DB2, once owned and raced by HWM-owner and works driver George Abecassis. It's priced at £45,000 - 55,000 - a competitive estimate for a car in which you could do many, and varied, events.
Prior to the motor cars Coys will sell a quantity of automobilia, and forty Sporting, Antique and Collectors' Guns, including a .375 Daniel Fraser & Co. Double Rifle in an oak and leather case with an outer canvas cover, estimated at £40,000 - 55,000.
