Snapshot, 1972: Is today the day for Chris Amon?

That momentous 1966 Le Mans win probably feels like a very distant memory for Chris Amon, as he gets in the zone for the 1972 Monaco Grand Prix. Could today be the day he finally stands on the top step of the podium?

Marred by reliability issues, ill-timed team moves and plain bad luck, a Formula 1 victory has proved elusive for Chris Amon. Throughout the New Zealander’s career he’ll contest 96 Grands Prix, none of which he’ll win earning him the reputation as the finest racing driver never to win a Grand Prix. That said, he’ll make his mark in sports car racing with wins at the Nürburgring, Daytona and, of course, Le Mans, before retiring back to New Zealand.

We’re sad to report that Chris Amon sadly died this week, aged 73.
