Bota Bota Spa: A floating indulgence

Looking for an out-of-the-ordinary spa experience? Look no further. A mid-century ferryboat in Montreal has been transformed into a floating relaxation centre. Here guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, while getting pampered to the lulling movements of the St Lawrence River.

If you happen to be in Montreal and you suddenly feel the urge to take the weight off your feet, the city’s floating spa might be just the place for you. Bota Bota spa – fashioned in a 1950s ferryboat - has fast become a hot spot for fatigued visitors and residents alike. After its glamorous makeover at the hands of designer Sid Lee, the industrial-style vessel has settled into a more serene yet sophisticated existence in the very heart of Montreal’s Old Port.

Meanwhile, the reinvented ferry offers high-end pampering spread across five decks, including a cocktail-bar-cum-pedicure-lounge, an extensive open-air whirlpool, Jacuzzis and even a sub-aquatic changing room. Up on deck, you have an impressive 360-degree view of the vibrant city, making it the perfect setting for some serious ‘forgetting-about-it-all’ moments.

Ultimately, the only downside appears to be the spa’s inability to actually sail away to sea. However, for urban dwellers longing for a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Bota Bota may very well be the zen-spot they’ve been looking for.

So as long as you’re not prone to seasickness – why not give the floating spa a whirl?
