Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono 2011

Reprising its trademark ‘racing tyre tread’ rubber strap and the famous red ‘1000 Miglia arrow’ logo, Chopard’s latest chronograph was launched at this year’s Mille Miglia retrospective.

For 2011, the company owned and run by Karl Friedrich Scheufele (a historic racing enthusiast of long standing) has produced a fashionably extra-large (44mm) timepiece. In this year’s regulation rally, Scheufele himself was behind the wheel of a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’, with other entries by Chopard including another ‘Gullwing’, a Lancia and a 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza.

The latest chronometer-tested chronograph is available in two limited editions: stainless steel (2011 examples) and rose gold, of which only 250 will be produced.

No hours are marked by numbers on the dial, and the crystal glass simply carries ‘12’ and ‘6’ engraved (and then coloured black) on its underside. The chronograph-function ‘pushers’ take the form of pedals, while the celebrated red arrow logo is clearly visible on the dial and an engraved version sits proudly on the top of the winder.
