Something for everyone from Dorotheum at Classic Expo Salzburg

During the Classic Expo Salzburg on 19 October, Dorotheum will hold a sale of circa-65 collector cars comprising ultra-desirable blue-chip classics including a Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’, a Lancia Group B rally car and a selection of affordable ‘youngtimers’. These are our highlights…

It sounds clichéd to say, but Dorotheum’s Classic Expo Salzburg sale on 19 October truly has something to satisfy every automotive taste and budget. The auction is spearheaded by a matching-numbers 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’ (est. 1–1.3m euros) finished in the rare shade of Strawberry Red Metallic and lovingly owned by a 300SL enthusiast for the last 25 years.

Our interest, however, was piqued by the 1983 Lancia 037 Evo 2 that was delivered as a Stradale version but subsequently upgraded by the factory to full-fat Group B specification (370,000–510,000 euros), the no-reserve 1993 Porsche 968 Club Sport resplendent in a characteristic racing livery (28,000–38,000 euros) and the well-maintained 2002 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage whose lower estimate of 26,000 euros is undeniably very tempting.
