Our 10 favourites from Dorotheum in Vienna

On 29 August in Vösendorf just outside Vienna, Dorotheum will stage its latest Classic Car and Motorcycle sale. These are our highlights…

We’ve already taken a closer look at the headline lot for Dorotheum’s upcoming Classic Car and Motorcycle sale, the über-rare Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 GT, but now it’s time to peruse the rest of the 71-lot catalogue. As we’ve come to expect from the Austrian auction house, there is a wonderfully diverse selection of collector cars and motorcycles on offer, ranging from the tantalisingly affordable to the über-desirable.

At the lower end of the catalogue, two front-engined Grand Tourers caught our attention. Estimated at just 7,000–10,000 euros, the ‘Cashmere Gold’ 1982 Rover SD1 3500 is the top-of-the-range Vanden Plas model looks to be in fantastic condition. Alternatively, the specification of the 1991 BMW 850i – Lagoon Green over Anthracite leather with Alpina wheels and CSi mirrors – is a real head-turner. Its pre-sale estimate is 30,000–44,000 euros.

At the sharp end of the sale, the 1976 Dino 246 ‘Ferrari’ (est. 290,000–390,000 euros), 1967 Fiat Dino Spider (110,000–140,000 euros) and 1954 Jaguar XK120 (90,000–130,000 euros) are all veritable classics worthy of spaces in the garages of the most discerning collectors. You can find our 10 favourites from the sale listed below or, alternatively, browse the entire catalogue for Dorotheum’s Classic Car and Motorcycle 2020 auction in the Classic Driver Market
