5 collector cars to put into your garage this week

We’ve made it to the final month of the year, and while the weather might be preparing for a winter chill, this week’s Market Finds includes some of the world’s most beautiful drop tops. Here are five of this week’s stand-out machines…

“The Arrow”

It’s hard to deny the beauty of charm of a mid-century Alfa Romeo, and even harder when it comes with one-off Vignale coachwork designed by Giovanni Michelotti. Combining some of Italy’s most beloved names in automotive coachbuilding, design, and engineering, this magnificent 1900 Cabriolet “La Fleche” was first unveiled at the 1955 Salone di Turino to a roaring crowd, who would later spot the car on the silver screen as it starred in two 1980s Italian films.

After an extensive restoration by the current owner, who acquired the car back in 2011, this gorgeous machine has been exhibited at numerous concours events, including winning Best of Show at the Concours d’Elegance Citta di Lugano. It's certainly easy to see why!

Mic Drop

We’ve seen our fair share of Green Over Tan delights, we’ve stared in delight at plenty of homologation specials, hell, we’ve drooled over hundreds of Porsches, but no other car has had us quite so weak at the knees as this Irish Green Porsche 959 Komfort.

One of just 266 legendary 959 Komforts ever made, this isn’t just Porsche's first supercar, it has been expertly reconfigured as a 959 SC Reimagined by Canepa, after four years of extensive customisation. The result is truly spectacular, boasting the "Canepa Stage III" engine upgrade, pushing the 959 to 850 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Finished in a lightly modified variant of Irish Green with full ceramic coated PPF and a bespoke brown leather interior, the search may well be over for the ultimate supercar!

The Avengers

Although now a staggering 21 years old, the Aston Martin DB9’s sleek bodylines have aged somewhat gracefully, but upon its release during the dawn of a new millennium, there were some who felt the car deserved a little extra sting in its tail. British designer, Afzal Kahn, has always sought to push the boundaries of automotive design, and he transformed the DB9 into something a James Bond Villain would drive rather than the agent himself.

Known as the ‘Kahn Vengeance’, this 2016 example is finished in a sleek metallic silver, contrasted by two-tone custom wheels and softened slightly by an elegant burgundy canvas roof and leather interior. With a 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 under the elongated bonnet, this is one cabrio we’re certain will cause a stir!

Pagoda Perfection

There are few other cars who possess such an understated charm as the Mercedes-Benz SL Pagoda. Born during Merc’s wonder years, where luxury and refinement were the most important factors in car making, SLs such as this one have become an absolute must-own for celebrities and car collectors alike.

If we were lucky enough to be in the position to acquire one, this is how we’d spec it. The subtle grey exterior shade lends itself effortlessly to a dark green roof, which, when opened, lets the matching dark green leather interior sing. This example is the highly sought-after 280 SL, and has been lovingly restored and upgraded with a six-speed manual transmission!

La Macchina Misteriosa

At first, we thought we’d be seeing a deep-voiced Italian Scooby Doo and Shaggy exiting the rear of this Fiat 850 Visitors Bertone, but thankfully they must have been out looking for clues, or snacks, leaving us to fully admire what is perhaps the ultimate MPV.

Design by the legendary Marcello Gandini for Bertone, this is one of just six examples ever made and was first registered by Fiat Auto Spa in Turin, before briefly heading to Switzerland in 2018. Since returning back to its homeland, this incredibly unique machine has undergone an extensive restoration, including the engine, exterior, interior and underside, ensuring this quirky people carrier can live on for decades to come!
