Bonhams at the One&Only Royal Mirage Hotel, Dubai, 11 October 2010 - Preview

The 46th of only 57 examples built, 1975 BMW 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' ($165,000 - 215,000), and 1979 BMW M1 ($165,000 - 215,000)

Having successfully held fine art sales in the region for some years, Bonhams will hold its first collectors’ motor car sale in Dubai on Monday, October 11.

The catalogue splits into two parts: 53 wristwatches, followed immediately by 16 cars. After a short break when the latter is concluded, a further sale of Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art, and Modern & Contemporary Middle Eastern Art will be held.

The location is the luxury One&Only Royal Mirage Hotel.

While some motor car entries are to be transported from outside the region, a significant number are locally sourced and reflect a growing interest in older, classic cars in a country synonymous with outrageously fast new supercars from Lamborghini, Ferrari and Aston Martin.

The ex-Alfred H Heineken, 1965 Bentley S3 Continental Coupé - $125,000 - 150,000

c.1988 Italdesign Aztec Barchetta - $100,000 - 150,000

One-off, 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona 'Shooting Brake' - $260,000 - 380,000

1962 Porsche 356B 1600 Cabriolet - $65,000 - 85,000

The varied catalogue should have something for everyone, featuring as it does pre-War cars (a 1932 Packard Model 900 'Light Eight' Coupé Roadster for $60,000 - 80,000, and a 1931 Lincoln Model K Convertible Coupé at $80,000 - 120,000), as well as several Ferraris (Dino 246 GTS, the one-off 365 GTB/4 Daytona 'Shooting Brake' and the Turin Motor Show, 1980 'Pinin' Sports Saloon), an Aston Martin and three Rolls-Royces.

There are also two entries direct from the BMW Museum in Munich, the 1979 M1 ($165,000 - 215,000) and the 1975 3.0 CSL 'Batmobile' ($165,000 - 215,000, the 46th of only 57 examples built).

Jaeger-LeCoultre 'Squadra Chrono GMT' - $6200 - 9400

Patek Philippe 18ct white gold automatic centre seconds wristwatch with annual calendar, moon phases and 48-hour power reserve - $16,000 - 23,000

Panerai Radiomir 1936 - $7800 - 11,000

In the watch section of the catalogue (in which Bonhams reports much interest), you will find examples of the familiar grandes marques: Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and many more.

The wristwatch and motor car sale starts at 6pm.
