Including a graphic of a registration number would be a little unexciting – but there was nothing dull about the mammoth £300,000 hammer price achieved for the right to display the combination ‘M1’ on your motor car.
Including buyer’s premium, the figure rises to £331,500 and no doubt the previous owners, the National Trust and Cheshire County Council, will be pleased using the proceeds of the sale to fund the continued preservation and conservation of Tatton Park, Cheshire. That apart, the next biggest seller was the blue metallic 1965 AC Cobra Roadster going for £227,000, although they did well to continue the excellent prices achieved at the all-Aston sale in May this year for the 1964 Aston Martin DB5, selling the ‘Bond ready’ car for £139,000.
There were a few ‘Not Solds’ in the results, including the 1964 Ford Falcon Rally Sprint, the 1966 Lamborghini Miura P400 and 1972 Lamborghini Espada, although the majority of cars did find new owners at, or around, estimate.

The attractive 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint Coupé went for £36,700, a similar sum to the other model sold recently at Christie’s in London.
All three motor boats looked superb in the temporary marquee that accommodated the Sale, the Riva Super Florida selling for £34,500, the 1972 Riva Olympic for £23,000, and your author’s favourite, the 1952 Chris-Craft Sedan for £18,975.
