BMW will show what is at present only a ‘concept’ new M5 at this year’s Shanghai show.
In line with previous M-car practice, the basic shape of the saloon has been teased and tweaked for a more aggressive stance, and to cover 20in forged alloy wheels clad with 265/35 ZR20 front and 265/35 ZR20 rear tyres.
Under the bonnet is the Munich company’s familiar twin-turbo V8 which is likely to produce over 550bhp. Improvements to efficiency, however, such as stop-start and a 'seven-speed M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic' are likely to make the new car a standard-setter for CO2 emissions and fuel economy in its (rarefied) class.
BMW promises a 25 per cent reduction compared with previous fuel consumption and emission levels. Needless to say, performance will be blistering, with exact figures to come nearer the production version’s actual launch.
The Shanghai show will take place from April 21-28.
