BMW 1 Series Convertible

Now there's an alternative BMW cabrio; in addition to the highly successful 3 Series convertible, the Bavarian company has just launched a drop-top version of the smallest coupé in its range.

In its entry-level 118i guise the new car could be compared to a Golf convertible or VW Eos, however if buyers order the 306hp 135i they will get a very high performance open car, capable of 0 - 62mph in 5.6sec and having a top speed limited to 155mph.

All customers ordering the 135i Convertibles will receive the M Sport aerodynamic package as standard. This features a redesigned front valance with larger air intakes for improved engine breathing and brake cooling. This set-up also has re-profiled sill panels and a rear diffuser integrated into the rear bumper. The 135i runs on 17-inch light alloy wheels.

The new 1 Series convertible features an electro-hydraulic fabric roof that opens or closes in 22 seconds (at speeds of up to 25mph), and buyers can choose from three roof colours: black, beige or, as a world first, an anthracite silver fleck which is a fabric material interwoven with fine shiny metallic fibres.

Roof apart, from a techical and trim standpoint the models are broadly similar to the Coupé launched in the summer. Pricing and on-sale information of all new BMW 1 Series Convertible models will be announced at a later date.
