Gooding & Company returns to UK for landmark auction

After the success of their “Passion of a Lifetime” sale at the Concours of Elegance 2020, Gooding & Company has returned to the UK with their first European online auction, running through 5th February 2021.

While the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT is clearly the star of the auction titled 'Geared Online | European Sporting & Historic Collection', it is hard to ignore the glorious black over green 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, a colour combination that perfectly captures the magic of the late sixties – classy, understated, effortlessly cool. The 275 GTB/4 still represents fantastic value for money compared to its close relatives. Could 2021 be the year to catapult the values of these cars even further? We certainly think so!

But back to that DB4 GT, one of only 30 LHD variants, fully restored by RS Williams Ltd and presented in the stunning combination of black pearl over dark blue. The motorsport bloodline of the DB4 GT to the British marques period racing success make this a highly collectable and important addition to any private collection. We should also mention two of the finest open-top showstoppers, both built in 1963: An Aston Martin DB5 convertible, offered for sale publicly for the first time, and a Mercedes-Benz 300SL dressed in Gelb with biscuit interior. Perfect for summer road trips as we make up for lost time in 2021!

Also offered for sale are a selection of fine Bentleys and Rolls-Royce that represent the golden age of British motoring. The prewar Bentley offerings are a duo of wonderful vintage examples. A late Vanden Plas-bodied 1930 Bentley 4 1/2 Litre Sports Tourer and a 1931 Bentley 8 Litre Pointed Tail Two Seater. There is also a 1950 Bentley B Special Speed 8 by Racing Green Engineering.

Rounding out this immaculate private collection are a pair of prewar Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continentals. A 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Drophead Coupe and a 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental, recorded as the second Phantom II built and features an experimental lightweight body by Barker that competed in the prestigious 1933 Monte Carlo Rally.

The online only auction has begun on Thursday, 28th January and runs through Friday, 5th February 2021. The collection is located in the UK and while it is exclusively an online auction, inspections are available through appointments only. You can browse the catalogue in the Classic Driver Market.
