Aston Martin at the 2011 Frankfurt Show: New DBS Carbon Edition

Aston Martin at the 2011 Frankfurt Show: New DBS Carbon Edition

In addition to showing its Zagato-bodied V12 Vantage, Aston Martin will have new limited-edition versions of the DBS at the IAA.

The 2011 DBS Carbon Edition adds two new colours to the existing Carbon Black, hand-flat-and-polished option. The super-shiny (“a glass veneer normally the reserve of jewellery production,” so Aston says) finish is now available in Flame Orange and Ceramic Grey.

As with all new DBS production, the new cars come with Garmin satellite navigation as standard and have the existing Carbon Edition specification: 10-spoke, gloss black diamond-turned wheels; black brake calipers (as standard, with yellow, orange, red or grey as an option); a ‘warm black’ grille; carbonfibre wing mirrors; carbon rear lamp in-fills and ‘smoked’ rear lights.

Inside, semi-aniline leather is employed by the yard to create an even more luxurious version of the Gaydon company’s flagship production model. In addition to Obsidian Black hide, Maranello Orange (ooh... get them!) is an alternative shade, with quilted-leather headlining and a carbonfibre fascia insert, hand-laid to exactly follow the form of the dash.

The magnesium Touchtronic II gearbox paddles have carbonfibre inserts, and a special plate in the same material (with laser-etched inlay) on the sills completes the specification.

On a slightly more mundane subject, ‘beam blade’ (rather than the magnificently named ‘whippletree’ – an engineering term) windscreen wipers introduced on the 2011 Virage find their way to the DBS. The Carbon Edition is available in both coupé and Volante (convertible, in Aston-speak) versions of the DBS.
