Do you really need a reason to travel to Paris? Quite. But if you are planning a pre-Christmas break, why not go at the end of October when Artcurial will hold its final 2011 motor cars sale?
The 69-car catalogue is topped by a 420,000 - 460,000-euro, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 'Gullwing' but, that apart, it generally includes more affordable entries such as the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Cabriolet (40,000 - 60,000 euros), the 1968 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow Coupé (25,000 - 40,000 euros) and the 1972 Maserati Indy 4200 – a lot of motor car for your argent (26,000 - 34,000 euros), messieurs-dames.
And if there ain’t enough art in the world’s most stylish city, how about Lot 146, the 2008 Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3 car painted by the contemporary artist Luis Salazar?
It carries an estimate of 150,000 - 200,000 euros, comes complete with a host of spares and merely requires an extra-large picture hook (or an International Racing Licence) for it to be a colourful addition to anyone’s collection.

Ferraris have always been popular in France. Aided by the tireless efforts on the race track of the redoubtable agent Charles Pozzi, the Italian marque has been the car of choice for the wealthy French industrialist. Tucked discreetly away, of course, from the workers - but still the perfect transport for an RN-road drive, two-up to the Côte d’Azur.
There, I’m excited already. Seven Ferraris are in the 30 October Paris sale, and range from a 1979 Ferrari 400i (10,000 - 20,000 euros, we always like them, and this one's in THE colour combination of metallic blue/tan) to a future classic, the 2009 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (110,000 - 150,000 euros, pity it’s red).

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL 'Gullwing': 420,000 - 460,000 euros | 1955 Jaguar XK120 Roadster: 75,000 - 90,000 euros |
On the Aston front, the sale has four cars, topped by the LHD 1955 DB 2/4 MkII convertible at 160,000 - 220,000 euros.
And, of course, no French sale would be complete without a Facel Vega, with Artcurial’s 1963 example carrying an estimate of 80,000 – 120,000 euros.
