1968 Ferrari 275 GTB/4: Sold for 789,364 euros

Paris-based auction house Artcurial grossed 5.3m euros at its recent 'Automobiles sur les Champs' sale. As expected, at 789,364 euros, the Serre Collection 1968 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 was the top-selling car.

Also from the estate of the reclusive Frenchman were further ‘No Reserve’ entries which included the magnificent 1935 Hispano Suiza K6 by Letourneur & Marchand (451,212 euros), the 1931 Bugatti Type 46 Coupé four-door by Vanvooren (208,259 euros) and an office favourite, the 1967 Lancia Flaminia Touring Cabriolet which comfortably broke its 25,000 – 45,000 euros estimate, selling for 54,252 euros.

Elsewhere in the catalogue, the LHD 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage sold for a quite extraordinary - and possibly record-breaking - 282,152 euros, the 1957 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster 523,986 euros, and the 1956 Porsche 356A Carrera Speedster 367,242 euros.

Interestingly, neither the four-cam Ferrari nor the 356A Carrera Speedster had ‘matching numbers’ engines.

In the Ferrari’s case, though, a car was found which carried the correct engine and a swap could well be made in the near future.

1966 Maserati Mistral: Sold for 44,817 euros

It wasn’t all plain sailing on the Champs-Élysées, as none of the Chapron-bodied Citroëns found new owners, and nor did the Belgian Mercedes collector’s three saloons.

The 1969 Lamborghini Miura S did not find a buyer on the night but was sold the following day, for 330,000 euros.
