Artcurial’s Matthieu Lamoure was on fine form in London the other day. The catalogue for this weekend’s sale more than justifies his confidence, including, as it does, 67 quality entries with more than a sprinkling of Ferraris, Aston Martins, Mercedes and Lamborghinis.
And two dark blue Maseratis: the 1963 Sebring (65,000 – 75,000 euros) you see above, and the 1970 Ghibli 4.9 SS at 55,000 - 75,000 euros. Both nice cars in attractively discreet colour schemes.
It is Paris, after all.
As a contrast, from Lamborghini come two typically flamboyant entries. Both the Arancio 1970 Miura P400 S (360,000 – 420,000 euros) and the metallic green 1971 Espada 400 GT (28,000 – 34,000 euros) define the word ‘exuberant’.
1952 Aston Martin DB2 Vantage - 90,000 - 120,000 euros
Now, if it’s understatement you’re looking for, how about one of the four Astons? With values riding on the crest of a wave post-RM’s London sale, bargains are thin on the ground. In Paris this weekend, buyers can choose from a LHD 1968 DBS Vantage (80,000 – 120,000 euros), an attractive Alfin-brake-equipped 1952 DB2 Vantage (90,000 – 120,000 euros), a 1958 DB Mk III (140,000 - 180,000 euros) and another DBS Vantage, this time a RHD 1970 example at 60,000 - 80,000 euros.
Ferraris in the handily sized, French/English catalogue include a couple of mid-engined, 308/328-series V8s, a 2008 599 GTB and one of the last V12s yet to really take off in price, the 1966 330 GT 2+2. Another dark blue GT, the twin-headlamp GT is estimated at 65,000 – 75,000 euros.
1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’ - 350,000 - 400,000 euros
The prize for the top-selling car should be a straightforward fight between the Miura and Lot 26, the 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL ‘Gullwing’, a late-production example carrying an estimate of 350,000 - 400,000 euros. In slightly more affordable territory, there’s also a Classic Driver office favourite: the 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupé (28,000 – 32,000 euros).
Naturally enough, Gallic breasts will swell with pride when any of the French-produced cars ‘cross the block’. The catalogue includes some classy entries such as the 1971 Citroën DS 21 Berline Lorraine Par Chapron (60,000 – 80,000 euros) and either of the two Alpine A110s. These comprise a ‘No Reserve’ 1976 1300 VC for 30,000 – 40,000 euros and a full-on, hillclimb car with a centrally mounted motor, the 1968 A110, at 50,000 – 70,000 euros.
1971 Porsche 911S 2.2L - 60,000 - 75,000 euros
Prior to the motor cars, Artcurial has assembled over 50 lots of automobilia, including several bonnet mascots and one lot of a variety of original Le Mans 24 Hours posters from 1952 to 1956 for 400 - 700 euros.
