Bowie’s art collection is a portal into Ziggy Stardust’s mind

Sotheby’s is poised to offer the late David Bowie’s private collection of art in a three-part sale in London this November…

“Art is all I ever wanted to own”

Art held a significant place in the eclectic musician’s heart, and his extensive collection comprised around 400 items. These included works of, predominantly, the British 20th Century greats such as Damien Hirst, Henry Moore and Frank Auerbach, but also those by Surrealist, Contemporary and African artists, reflecting his diverse tastes. The ten-day auction – titled Bowie/Collector – is set to take place at Sotheby’s New Bond Street galleries in November, but if you’re elsewhere and keen to understand more about Ziggy Stardust’s art obsession, fear not. The entire collection will be exhibited prior to the auction, in London, Los Angeles, New York and Hong Kong.
