After last year’s hugely successful inaugural historic meeting at the Algarve Autodrome, this coming weekend (15-17 October) sees the return of 300 cars and their drivers, hoping for more of the same thrilling action – and perhaps even the same hot sunshine.
Among the scheduled races is a round of the FIA Historic Formula One Championship, as well as the usual delightful spread of Formula Junior, U2TC Pre-66 Touring Cars and a whole host of races from Masters – from World Sportscars to the GTs of the Gentlemen Drivers series. Then there’s the two-hour Stirling Moss Trophy feature race on the Saturday evening, organised by Motor Racing Legends for 1950s sports cars, which provided such a fantastic spectacle at last year’s event – as did the Pre-War Sports Cars race, back again for more fun in 2010.
Last year, temperatures reached 29 degrees C, but October in southern Portugal is not always so calm, clear and balmy. Whatever the weather, the on-track action on the dramatic, undulating circuit (which rises and falls 106 feet) is sure to be outstanding.
