9th of December: Richard Gorman
Richard Gorman, President of Vantage Motorworks: “My choice for the ideal Christmas gift would be our 1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Convertible.”
“This specific Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Convertible, by far the finest of only four left hand drives ever built, having travelled only 22,958 miles since supplied to the silent film star, Norma Talmadge, fully equipped with air conditioning, power steering, electric windows and top mechanism, removable one of a kind second windscreen and more. It is an incredible performer.”
Richard Gorman’s personal suggestion for the perfect Christmas gift is an astonishingly well preserved example finished in Shell Grey lacquer, as first supplied and retrimmed in show quality Stone Connolly hides by Vantage Motorworks' specialists in 1984. This is one of the most impressive convertibles, constructed on the long wheelbase formal limousine chassis.
As a late specimen it was supplied with factory power-steering and the same high performance powerplant found in the legendary S-1 Continentals of the era. There were only 4 such works of art built in LHD and all are known to Vantage Motorworks. All of which remain with the car along with its original books, tools, copies of the factory history and a very nice scrapbook which has photos of this beloved car when new.
About Richard Gorman
“My earliest memories are from when I was about 4 years old and my brother was three. We would play garage. He was the man dealing with clients and I was the mechanic which is still the case. My brother soon realized it was only a game, but after 59 years, I still haven't! My passion for special automobiles remains unabated. The twenty-five year old accompanying photo is of his three year old son "learning the trade" from his eldest uncle.”
Today Richard Gorman is President of Vantage Motorworks located at Miami, Florida. For more than three decades among the foremost Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist facilities in the world.
