3rd March 2003 - Auction Review - Coys at the London Business Design Centre

Text- Steve Wakefield

With two thirds of the lots at Coys first London Sale at their regular Business Design Centre venue published as sold, the company must be relatively pleased with the results. However the highlighted lot, the 1952 Allard J2X, failed to find a new owner

Top price went to the Mercedes 300SL Roadster (£98,000 incl premium), interest in these models clearly following on from H&H's recent sale. The John Chatham prepared works replica 1965 Healey Mk III in ‘works’ green/white livery (Est £30,000 – 38,000) sold at a reasonable, but below estimate, £29,000 reflecting the difficulty in selling non-period racing machinery.

Another featured lot, the 1935 Bentley 3 ½ Litre 3 position D.H.C Ex Albert Finney went for £44,000 including premium. A good price for an elegant, if not overtly sporting, car.
