There is a wide variety of cars in the H&H auction on 2nd October, but little of great value. Interesting lots include a potential London to Brighton Run entrant, the 1904 Cadillac Model B Runabout, and an ex-works MG A 1600 Twin Cam coupe from 1958. H&H tells us that this MG A is one of just two Twin Cam works rally cars, chassis number YM1/596, and it took part in the 1959 Monte Carlo Rally, among other events. Thoroughly restored, the car is featured in the current (October 2002) issue of Classic Cars magazine, and carries an estimate of £42,000 – 50,000.

If you have £48,000 – 52,000 to spend on an example of deeply strange automotive design, then consider the 1937 “coffin-nosed” Cord 812 Phaeton Convertible, with its wrap-around grille of wide, horizontal louvres. The retractable headlamps are, apparently, actually aircraft landing lights. Or for a modern day classic, there’s a 2-year-old Aston Martin DB7 V12, asking £70,000 – 75,000.
