Der Mercedes-Benz W 111 war das erste Oberklassen-Modell der Heckflossen-Familie.
1967 brachte Mercedes einen neuen 2,8 Liter-Motor mit 160 PS auf den Markt. Demzufolge hieß der neue W 111 nun 280 SE. Es gab dabei kleine Änderungen im Innenraum. So wurde das bisher furnierte Armaturengehäuse nun mit Leder bezogen.

Ein weiteres auch äußerlich erkennbares Facelift gab es bei den W 111 ab 1969 mit der Einführung des 3,5 Liter-V8-Motors mit 200 PS, als die Frontpartie eine flachere Motorhaube und einen niedrigeren Kühlergrill bekam. Die Modelle werden über die Bezeichnungen „Hochkühler“ und «Flachkühler* unterschieden. Die 280 SE 3,5 Coupé/Cabrio sind die begehrtesten Fahrzeuge dieser Bauserie.

Im Mai 1971 wurden die letzten Sechszylinder-Coupés und -Cabriolets gefertigt, im Juli endete die Herstellung der Coupés und Cabriolets der Baureihen W 111 nach mehr als zehn Jahren Gesamtbauzeit mit Fertigungseinstellung der Achtzylinder endgültig. Damit endete auch vorerst der Bau von S-Klasse Coupés und – Cabriolets. Obwohl die Cabriolets während der Bauzeit nur rund 10 % mehr kosteten als die Coupés sind sie heutzutage im vergleichbaren Zustand und Motorisierung um ein Vielfaches teurer.

Von diesem Fahrzeugtyp W111 280 SE mit dem 3,5 Liter-Motor wurden von 1969 – 1971 insgesamt 1.232 Stück im Werk Sindelfingen gebaut und weltweit ausgeliefert. Dieses Fahrzeug hatte seine Erstzulassung am 01.07.1971 und zählt somit zu einem der letzten gebauten Fahrzeuge dieser Baureihe.

The Mercedes-Benz W 111 was the first luxury class model of the fintail family.
In 1967 Mercedes launched a new 2.8 liter engine with 160 hp. As a result, the new W 111 was now called the 280 SE. There were small changes in the interior. The instrument housing, which was previously veneered, has now been covered with leather.
Another facelift that was also visible from the outside was the W 111 from 1969 with the introduction of the 3.5 liter V8 engine with 200 hp, when the front end got a flatter bonnet and a lower radiator grille. The models are distinguished by the designations „high cooler“ and „flat cooler*“. The 280 SE 3.5 Coupé/Cabrio are the most sought-after vehicles of this series.
The last six-cylinder coupés and cabriolets were produced in May 1971, and in July production of the W 111 series coupés and cabriolets finally ended after a total construction period of more than ten years with the end of production of the eight-cylinder models.
This ended the construction of S-Class coupés and cabriolets for the time being. Although the cabriolets only cost around 10% more than the coupés during the construction period, they are many times more expensive today in a comparable condition and engine.

A total of 1,232 of this vehicle type W111 280 SE with the 3.5 liter engine were built in the Sindelfingen plant from 1969 – 1971 and delivered worldwide.
This vehicle was first registered on July 1st, 1971 and is therefore one of the last vehicles of this series to be built.
