Introduced at Turin in 1958 alongside Touring's GT, the Flaminia Sport was Lancia's competition-minded interpretation of Antonio Fessia's shortened 99-inch chassis, clothed by Zagato in hand-formed aluminum to a design by Ercole Spada. The earliest cars, built through 1959 and known today as the Series I, are distinguished by recessed covered headlamps, a central bonnet scoop, and Zagato's signature double-bubble roof. Beneath sat Lancia's all-alloy 2.5-liter V6 with a single Solex carburetor, driving a rear-mounted transaxle. Just 99 covered-headlamp examples were completed, making the Series I the scarcest of the road-going Sport Zagatos.

Chassis number 82400-1105 was delivered new to France and first registered on 26 November 1959. By January 1964 it wore the Alpes-Maritimes registration "575 MH 06," remaining in the south of France for well over a decade before being cleared for export to Germany in June 1978. The accompanying file records that the Lancia then entered Peter Kaus's celebrated Rosso Bianco Collection near Frankfurt, where it remained until the early-1990s.

The car returned to France in February 1991, cleared through Paris customs and registered that May to Jan August Hendrickx of Issy-les-Moulineaux. It was subsequently acquired by the Dutch enthusiast Victor Muller, later a founder of Spyker Cars, who applied for a FIVA identity card through the FFVE in April 1997 and campaigned the Lancia in the Tour de France Historique that year. A repaint of the original alloy coachwork by Dijkhof of Achterveld followed in 1997.

In Dutch ownership, Superleggera Classic Car Service of Hilversum devoted 81 hours to the car in 2005, refurbishing the seat frames and dashboard, servicing the carburetor and ignition. Mugello Engineering rebuilt the cooling system in 2014 and, most recently in June 2026, carried out a comprehensive service encompassing a valve adjustment, a carburetor rebuild, new points and plugs, and a complete brake overhaul with a new master cylinder, eight wheel cylinders, and fresh hoses.

Appraised by Gratama & Luxwolda in November 2020, the Lancia was described as fully restored, with straight and undamaged aluminum coachwork, a sound floor, complete brightwork, and all instruments functioning. It presents today in stunning gunmetal grey over cognac leather with black piping and grey rubber mats, displaying 46,856 kilometers at the time of cataloging, and it is offered with an extensive file of French, German, and Dutch registration papers, customs documents, and service invoices dating back more than two decades.

Among the most elegant shapes Zagato produced in the postwar era, the covered-headlamp Series I remains the purest expression of the Flaminia Sport, and with just 99 built it is a rare car in any condition. This example, freshly serviced and in a spectacular color combination, is ready for immediate use on the road or for presentation at the concours events for which Spada's design remains so well suited.
