A symbol of Italian elegance and refinement, the Lancia Flaminia was one of the marque’s great post-war achievements. Its rare coachbuilt coupés offered a more sporting character, none more so than Zagato’s dramatic Sport. Built on a shortened chassis with lightweight aluminium bodywork and the most powerful engines available, the Flaminia Sport Zagato became the fastest and most exclusive version of the model. From 1963, it was further enhanced with the 2.8-litre three-carburettor engine, creating the highly desirable 2.8 3C specification.

One of approximately 192 examples produced, this Flaminia Sport Zagato was completed on 26 February 1960, finished in white with black leather upholstery, as confirmed by its Lancia Heritage Certificate. During the 1970s, the car passed to an owner in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland, as recorded on the accompanying Swiss registration document.

The current Dutch owner, a devoted enthusiast of the model and of Italy, and founder in 2005 of the Via Flaminia Rallies, acquired this Sport Zagato in 1999 from an Italian resident in England. At the time, the car was a restoration project and was accompanied by its Swiss registration document, cancelled in May 1982.

He later entrusted the car to one of the foremost Dutch specialists in Lancia Flaminia restoration for a comprehensive, originality-focused rebuild, completed two years ago. While the original black leather seats were retained, the car was returned to the red livery it wore during its time in Switzerland, finished in period-correct Rosso Arcoveggio, a shade named after the historic Bologna racecourse.

During the restoration, the car was fitted with the upgraded and highly desirable 2.8-litre 3C engine, the most powerful unit offered in the Flaminia range. A correct-type 2.5-litre engine, very likely the car’s original unit, continues to accompany the car.
