Het verhaal van de deze Ford Escort Mk1 1600 GT Mexico begint met de levering in Finland op 18 april 1974. De auto is daar ook altijd gebleven. Een paar jaar geleden pakte een Ford monteur zijn gereedschapskist en een restauratie begon die zijn gelijke nauwelijks kent. Werkelijk de complete auto werd onder handen genomen en tot in het kleinste detail origineel behouden of weer zo gemaakt. Alle details geven heel goed weer hoe passievol men te werk is gegaan om dit stukje historie rijdend te houden. Een kleine aanpassing is gedaan wat betreft de stoelen, deze zijn van de Mk2, en zitten echt een stuk beter dan de originele. Dat vergeven we de restaurateur dus graag. Overigens zijn de originele stoelen ook nog bij de auto.

Deze in de prachtige kleur Electic Blue Monza gespoten is originele AVO Escort, dat wil zeggen dat de auto komt uit de speciale reeks voertuigen geproduceerd tussen 1968 en 1975 door “Advanced Vehicle Operations” (A.V.O) van Ford Motor Company. Dit zijn de Twin Cam-, RS1600-, MEXICO- en RS2000-versies van de MK1 Escort, samen met de RS3100 Capri. Een AVO body is een must voor de liefhebber en purist.

De Escort is altijd in Finland gebleven totdat de auto enkele jaren geleden in een Nederlandse verzameling van auto’s en motoren terecht kwam. Met pijn in het hart is de eigenaar nu wegens verhuizing van zijn bedrijf met als gevolg ruimtegebrek, min of meer gedwongen zijn geliefde Escort te verkopen. Omdat wij er op dit moment nog enkele in de verkoop hebben staan, is de auto in passend gezelschap en kan de belangstellende eens goed vergelijken en makkelijker besluiten welke Escort in zijn garage moet komen te staan.

The story of this Ford Escort Mk1 1600 GT Mexico begins with its delivery in Finland on April 18, 1974. The car has always remained there. A few years ago, a Ford mechanic packed up his toolbox and began a restoration that has only a few equals. The car was completely overhauled and kept original down to the smallest detail or restored to its original state. All the details clearly show how passionately they worked to keep this piece of history running. A small modification has been made to the seats, these are from the Mk2, and are a lot better than the original ones. We are happy to forgive the restorer that. The original seats are also still with the car.

This car, painted in the beautiful color Electic Blue Monza, is an original AVO Escort, which means that the car comes from the special series of vehicles produced between 1968 and 1975 by “Advanced Vehicle Operations” (A.V.O) of Ford Motor Company. The Escort always remained in Finland until the car ended up in a Dutch collection of classic cars and motorcycles a few years ago. With pain in the heart, the owner is now more or less forced to sell his beloved Escort due to the relocation of his company, resulting in a lack of space. Because we still have a few Escorts for sale at the moment, the car is in suitable company and the interested party can make a thorough comparison and decide more easily which one should be in his garage.
