In 1998, the launch of the 550 Maranello marked the return of Ferrari to making grand touring cars, with longitudinal front 12-cylinder engine. The car was also very modern, combining performance (485bhp and 320 km/h), with smoothness and comfort, what with its fabulous engine and its electronically controlled suspension. It was also the last Ferrari marketed with a 6-speed manual transmission. The convertible version, eagerly awaited appeared in 2000 as a limited edition model with just 448 units made. This was quite a radical change, designed to give the owner a delightful wind-in-the-hair experience, a great Ferrari tradition from years that had been revived. It may be interesting to remember that the very first Ferrari from 1947 was the 125 S Barchetta. This is the name that was used once again on the 550 convertible. Mechanically it was identical in every respect to the Maranello, but it differed, however, in some details: the rims were more elegant, the dashboard used carbon fiber, the side skirts were standard, etc. In total, an extraordinary car that remains unjustly neglected.

The car on offer, number 224 of 448, has covered only 3,500 km since it left the factory. It is as good as new, especially since it received in 2013 a comprehensive service by a large Italian specialist, "Quality Car" in Padova. On this occasion all the elements that are likely to age, such as tires, belts, and various fillings were replaced. The car is equipped with its original accessories, its tool kit, seat covers, steering wheel cover, and drives perfectly.
A very rare opportunity indeed to acquire a special example of this little-known model and its rarity and near perfect condition makes it a very safe investment as well as a pleasure to own.
