• The first generation of BMW’s legendary M5 super saloon
• Powered by the BMW Motorsport-developed M88/3 3.5-litre inline-six paired with a Getrag five-speed manual gearbox
• Factory-correct finish of Diamond Black Metallic over Pearl Beige leather
• Equipped with air conditioning, power windows and sunroof, and BMW Business RDS stereo

BMW dropped a revised version of the 3.5-litre inline-six from the M1 supercar into the E28-generation 5 Series to create the M5. It shared the M88/3 engine with E24-type M635CSi coupé and was the fastest production saloon in the world when unveiled at the Amsterdam International Motor Show in February 1985. Although based on the 535i, the M5 was hand built by BMW Motorsport technicians and included uprated suspension, revised bumpers, and subtle interior tweaks. In total, 2,241 examples of the first-generation M5 are believed to have been produced worldwide, including a North American-market version with a slightly detuned engine.

This example completed production at BMW’s Dingolfing plant on 19 March 1986 and was delivered new to Italy on 23 May. It came finished from the factory in Diamond Black Metallic over Pearl Beige leather and was equipped with air conditioning, power windows and sunroof, onboard computer II with remote control, and BMW Business RDS stereo, among other mod-cons.
