Klassiker der Siebziger Jahre - der BMW 3.0 CS von 1972
Mit dem 3.0 CS und seinem 2800 CS-Schwestermodell gelingt BMW-Chefdesigner Wilhelm Hofmeister ein Designcoup. Eine fast ätherisch wirkende, langgestreckte Form mit einem Vieraugengesicht. Die Tester von damals sind voll des Lobes: «Kein Sportwagen, aber ein sportliches Auto, keine Limousine, aber ein Viersitzer», schreibt die auto, motor und sport. Und die Automobil Revue formuliert etwas konkreter: «Das Coupé ist in diskreter Art für eine attraktiv-sportliche Fahrweise ausgelegt, verdient aber auch, auf Grund der Heizung, der Lüftung und des Sitzkomforts, das Prädikat bequemer Reisewagen.»

With the 3.0 CS and its 2800 CS sibling, BMW’s chief designer Wilhelm Hofmeister pulled off a design triumph. The car presents an almost ethereal, elongated form, complemented by the iconic “four-eyes” front. Contemporary reviewers were full of praise: “Not a sports car, but a sporting car; not a saloon, but a four-seater,” wrote auto, motor und sport. Automobil Revue put it more concretely: “The coupé is discreetly designed for an attractively sporty driving style, yet also deserves the title of comfortable touring car thanks to its heating, ventilation and seating comfort.”
The BMW 3.0 CS on offer, originally delivered in Switzerland, is naturally equipped with BMW’s popular inline-six engine, a carburettor unit producing 180 PS. The current owner has cherished the car for around 20 years. In 2025, the BMW underwent a restoration, with invoices documenting extensive bodywork amounting to nearly CHF 40,000. The interior remains original and exceptionally well cared for. Freshly veteran-certified, this 3.0 CS is ready for long, carefree cruising in the new year.
