Beschreibung

The Bentley Mark VI was the first post-war model of the Crewe manufacturer and also the first which was equipped with a works body and delivered as a completely assembled car. Initially it was equipped with the so-called „4 ¼-litre“ inline-6 engine with 4’257 cc. From 1951 an enlarged 4 ½-litre engine with 4’566 cc was available. These two variants are also known as “small bore” resp. “big bore”. The latter one became the standard issue engine of the R-Type. Of course, the car could still be ordered as a rolling chassis to be clothed with a coachwork to the owner‘s choice. Relatively few examples did in fact receive bespoke coachwork (of the ‘5202 examples of the Mark VI built, only 1’012 were equipped with custom coachwork and only 180 of those had the four and half litre engine). The Mark VI offered is one of those rare examples and was finished with coachwork by H.J. Mulliner & Co. The first registration of the noble saloon took place in England on the 1st of April 1952. This is where the car spent most of its life and where years ago it was probably restored as well. A few years ago, the Bentley was imported into Switzerland and registered locally. After a change of ownership in 2018, the Mark VI was taken over by the vendor at the end of 2022 but never registered and occasionally used with dealer plates. Currently the car is in good condition with the inline-6 running smoothly and the four speed manual gearbox shifting correctly. The most recent veteran MOT was completed in December 2016.
