1962 SUNBEAM ALPINE Series 2
Chassis: 89561156420DLRX
French registration document
- Legendary model: James Bond's first film car
- Desirable Series 2
- Many recent works
Introduced in 1959 by the British Rootes group, the Sunbeam Alpine followed in the great tradition of British roadsters, with the ambition of competing directly with the benchmarks of the genre, MG and Triumph. Produced until 1968, the Alpine marked the manufacturer's last great adventure before its takeover by Chrysler.
Designed in 1957, the Alpine was powered by the four-cylinder 1.5-litre engine from the Rapier Série II, but reworked for sportier use. Thanks to an aluminium cylinder head, a new rear axle, disc brakes at the front and two carburettors, it developed 78 bhp, enabling it to reach speeds of over 155 km/h - quite respectable performance for a convertible of that era.
In 1960, the Series 2 was launched with a number of mechanical upgrades and an increase in power to 80 bhp. This is precisely the version we are offering today.
Acquired in 2017 by its current owner, this Sunbeam Alpine has benefited from extensive refurbishment. The engine has been rebuilt, as has the upholstery and paintwork, at a total cost of over €6,000, with invoices to prove it.
In a beautiful state of presentation, this Alpine Series 2 is an ideal opportunity to enjoy an elegant British convertible with undeniable charm.
