When the Ferrari Testarossa debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 1983, it became the car of the decade, thanks to its outrageous styling and fantastic performance. The subsequent 512 TR was first shown in 1991 and, although much of the Testarossa’s original design was retained, underneath it was a drastically different car that offered improved roadholding and higher performance by virtue of a new Bosch engine management system, improved air intake system, and a revised exhaust system.

This 1992 Ferrari 512 TR was purchased by the consignor circa 2019 after an exhaustive search for a 512 TR to restore into what he believed would be the ultimate example of the model. While the CARFAX Vehicle History Report for this TR shows an accident in 2005 that resulted in a total-loss claim, the prior owner was never able to corroborate that fact, neither in research nor physical inspection, as detailed in a letter on file. The consignor then embarked on an extensive restoration and reimagining of the 512 TR.

Showing approximately 51,000 miles before disassembly, the Ferrari was comprehensively restored by Naples Classic Car in Naples, Florida, and fitted with significant upgrades from the limited-production F512 M. Finished in an exclusive shade of Azzurro Hyperion (Hyperion Light Blue), photos on file show this 512 TR was taken down to bare metal to change the original shade of Rosso Corsa (Racing Red). An NOS (new old stock) set of rare, “Modular,” multi-piece wheels – a factory option – were also installed to complete the exterior look.

During the restoration, the engine was rebuilt with NOS and factory parts to ensure peak performance. Service records on file show that the car received new pistons, valves, starter, and air-conditioning system. Additionally, a higher-flowing F512 M muffler was installed along with all new brakes, coil-over shocks, and suspension bushings. The gearbox received the same treatment, gaining new synchros and a F512 M differential. Finally, the engine and gearbox were placed in what is believed to be the last available new old stock F512 M rear subframe before being reunited with the car.

This attention to detail carried into the interior, which was reupholstered in Crema and dark blue, utilizing only Ferrari leather. The carpets are also lustrous dark blue and present a striking contrast against the light-colored seats.
