The 911 (996) Turbo offers genuine supercar performance in a compact and practical package. The turbocharged version of the 996 appeared in 2000, three years after the normally aspirated 996 had replaced the much loved 993 and was as radical a departure from the 993 Turbo as its, opinion-dividing sibling had been. Arriving with four-wheel drive as standard, a water-cooled engine, a smooth new bodyshell and a radically updated cabin, the new 996 Turbo was a thoroughly sophisticated, all-weather, competent supercar and although it went out of production in 2005, in real terms it's still as quick as anything on the road.Water cooling, a first for Porsche, allowed an engine redesign that included four valves per cylinder, enabling higher power outputs to be achieved with much better fuel economy. Although the Turbo is water-cooled it's not the same engine that's in the regular 996. The 3.6-litre Mezger engine in the Turbo can trace its ancestry back to the old air-cooled units and is directly related, not only to the 996 GT3, but also the GT1 racer with 3.2 litres and 600bhp. This engine has proved virtually bulletproof and the standard 420bhp can be comfortably extended to 500bhp with confidence.Boasting a production run of just 1,500 units, the 996 Turbo S came at the very end of the 996 production cycle in 2005 and was given the full house treatment of options. The engine was essentially the same as the standard Turbo but was fitted with VarioCam Plus, a further development of the familiar VarioCam system, which changes both the intake camshaft timing (by as much as 25°) as well as the intake valve lift. Bigger turbos,  from theX50 Powerkit, were fitted boosting power to 450bhp and the car’s top speed broke through that magic 300km/h barrier, with a maximum of 190mph (307km/h) placing it firmly in supercar territory. PCCB Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes were fitted to the 'S' as standard. This Porsche 911 (996) Turbo S is a UK-supplied (C16), manual gearbox car first registered in March 2005. Ordered in Polar Silver with ruffled blue leather it has covered 53,000 miles and has a comprehensive service history with the service book showing 7 Porsche main dealer stamps and the most recent  2 with a well known Porsche specialist. It will be freshly serviced and have a shiny new MoT before the sale ready to enjoyed by its new owner.
