"The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA and was introduced as a four-cylinder roadster with a coupé added in 1965. It was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilising a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Manual windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds; this was aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798cc, B-Series engine produced 95bhp at 5,400rpm with the engine upgraded in October 1964 to a five-bearing crankshaft to improve reliability. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger at a 30mph impact.
This 1969 MGB Roadster on wire wheels with overdrive was purchased by the current owner in 2001. While in her ownership the car has had very little use, from the MoT test certificate history it has only covered 2,500 miles since 2008 and only 500 miles since 2011. Even with the apparent low mileage, the car has been kept very well maintained and was restored in the original colour and the engine replaced in the 1980’s. A new hood was fitted in 2000 and after being laid up for several reasons and then the pandemic, the car has been recently being recommissioned which included replacing the radiator and fitting new batteries. Finished in its original dark green with a black interior piped in white, this MG is supplied with a V5C registration document and a large file containing old registration documents, old MoT test certificates, a number of invoices going back to the 1990’s and photographs taken when the restoration was carried out and the new engine fitted. This is an ideal car for someone entering the classic car market especially as it requires a little work to return it to its former glory.
