Beschreibung

"Introduced in 1957, the Flaminia was Lancia's flagship model at that time, replacing the Aurelia. It was available throughout its lifetime as saloon, coupé and cabriolet. The Flaminia coupé and convertible were coachbuilt cars with bodies from several prestigious Italian coachbuilders. The aluminium bodied cabriolet and coupés from Touring of Milan were considerably more expensive than the Berlina models but the designs epitomised the style and design flair of the finest motoring designers of their time. A total of 1,550, 2.5 litre, GT coupés were built by Carozzeria Touring between 1957-62, making them somewhat exclusive in their day. With double wishbones, coil springs and shock absorbers featuring on the new model, the cars performance was nimble and the ride comfort was superior to much of the competition. The Flaminia was named after the ‘Via Flaminia’, a road leading from Rome to Ariminum (Rimini). This respected the established Lancia tradition of naming individual models after Roman roads.
This stunning example of the Flaminia GT by Carozzeria Touring of Milan was produced on 16th February 1962 as confirmed by the Centro Storico document found within the history file. Presented in Lord Blue with contrasting burnt orange leather hide trim over stone Wilton carpets which have all been beautifully restored. A privately owned example, this was purchased by our vendor and in need of restoration. In 2016, the vendor selected the well-known and respected classic specialist Adam Redding to set about the task of returning this example to its former glory, the result in early 2018 is what can only be described as one of the best examples we have had the pleasure to offer. The original yellow headlights are a nod to its continental roots, but we are informed the clear examples are available should the new buyer wish. We are informed a full matching numbers car, the engine has seen the same attention to detail as the bodywork with the car being described as better than new and a joy to drive.
This Flaminia GT has been fabulously well restored and maintained since, it comes with an extensive file of works and parts within the history file. Also included is a UK V5 registration document. Flaunted by the rich and famous during the 1950s and 1960s, these handcrafted grand tourers are still very capable motor cars today. Imagine touring the Côte d’Azur, what a breeze!
